Intro: In the vast expanse of the techno music universe, certain artists have the uncanny ability to not just mirror the zeitgeist but to anticipate and shape it. Luca Saporito, one half of the iconic Audiofly duo, stands tall among these visionary talents. Reflecting on our conversations from a decade ago, I was struck by the realization that the music Luca passionately spoke about and played then, has become the sound that resonates with masses today. He wasn’t just following trends; he was setting them.
Being a harbinger of musical evolution is no small feat, yet Luca’s foresight and innovative spirit made him a precursor to the currents of contemporary techno. While many were still trying to find their sound, he was already projecting the future audioscape.
However, beyond his pioneering musical instincts, what remains most memorable is the persona of Luca Saporito. Grounded in authenticity and driven by a heartfelt passion, he embodies a mix of humility and determination. Even as his foresightful beats blazed trails, the man behind the music remained affable, genuine, and refreshingly candid.
Join us for a deep dive into the journey of a maestro who was always a step ahead, crafting the sonic narratives of tomorrow, a decade in advance.
Hi Luca, you’ve had a rich and diverse musical journey. Can you share with us one of the most significant or transformative moments in your career and how it shaped your artistic evolution?
Hi there and thanks for having me. Ironically, the most transformative turning point was going through the end of my partnership with Audiofly. It was a great learning curve but certainly left me with tonnes of great highlights to look back to with a big smile. And as an Artist it gave me a huge push into the right direction – which is forward.
Looking at the current music landscape, what trends or changes excite you the most? Conversely, are there aspects that concern you or that you feel are challenging for artists today?
Generally, I am now more than ever looking forward to the future, the perks it’ll bring us and the transformations we’ll go through, collectively and as individuals. Interestingly, that’s what the most recent post on my socials was about, so I guess that’s a hot topic.
The challenges I personally see is the disposable nature of art and music in general these days, which gives a much shorter shelf life to most products out there.
Without giving too much away, can you give us a glimpse of what we can expect from your upcoming work in the coming months? Are there specific collaborations or projects you’re particularly enthusiastic about?
I have been working on the creation of a new brand/label called Super Sapiens in the past few months, and I am really excited about it. We did a couple of amazing events with really cool artists already (Echonomist, Jenia Tarsol, Amine K… to name a few) and will properly take this off the ground on Nov 24th with our first release. We signed none other than XINOBI for the first one, and it will come out with a remix of myself as well, which sounds really good by the way, if I can say so.
I am also doing a bunch of nice solo releases, one just being signed by Frau Blau and slated for an end of the year release and the other one for my good friend Jan Blomqvist, which will hopefully be a game changer. Spending quite a lot of time in the studio these days
Many artists draw from various sources of inspiration, often outside their field. Are there books, movies, places, or personal experiences that have had a profound impact on your music recently?
Of course. When you’re open to create, inspiration actually comes in all forms. For me it’s oftentimes sounds or even just bits of conversations I hear in tv shows or movies for example that inspire me to start producing a new track. The final result is mostly something completely different and unexpected, but it’s always a great starting point. Recently I caught myself singing for the first time on a track. Keep your ears out for this one. 🙂
Connecting with the audience is a crucial aspect for any artist. How would you describe your relationship with your fans, and how do their reactions and feedback influence your musical output?
While still trying to be true to my audiofly roots, I am also exploring new avenues sonically that allow me to stay current within the ever changing musical scene of today. I realize that the old audience is still here and watching closely, while I am simultaneously being discovered by new audiences as well. I think that’s important and a good overall mix of where I envision myself to be as an artist in the near future.
