  • Francesco, can we start with an overview of how your project ‘Intrecci’ came to life? What was the inspiration behind this series of artworks that you will be showcasing in Ibiza for Lotus on October 14th?”

Initially I made my works as a pastime and gave them to my family, I would never have thought of a future as an artist. Then Covid happened, and I really had a lot of time to spend. Here, in order not to go crazy and escape the depressive spiral I had entered, in September 2020 I concentrated on producing my works. To the point where I almost didn’t have room in the living room to cram them. These works were seen and appreciated by a famous art critic, Mariuccia Casadio, who wrote a piece in Vogue in March 2021 talking about some artists including me. I posted the article on my Instagram and started posting some photos of my works, hoping to free up some space in the living room. Then in the following 2 weeks I sold 34 works… and from there I began to think that perhaps this could become a real profession for me.

  • “Your ‘Intrecci’ artworks seem to have a unique and distinctive style. Could you share with us the creative process behind them? What materials and techniques did you use to bring these pieces to life?

My creative process begins by visualizing the finished work in my head, I’m dyslexic and have a very good visual memory. So after I see the work I start picking the strips or the ribbons out color by color. The when everything’s out on my desk I start recreate what I have in my head.

At the beginning I used paper strips which I then brushed with different resins. Now to be able to create larger works I use satin ribbons, which I selected for the way they play with the light.

  • Is there a specific message or meaning that you intend to convey through your ‘Intrecci’ artworks? What emotions or sensations do you hope the audience will experience while admiring them?

Each of my works is very personal to me. In my “INTRECCI” I try to capture emotions, scents or sensations that I have felt in certain places or different moments of my life.

I hope that my works arouse some kind of emotion in those who observe them.

  • Apart from the exhibition in Ibiza, what are you currently doing regarding the ‘Intrecci’ project? Do you have any other upcoming exhibitions or events planned to showcase these artworks in other locations?

The “INTRECCI” project is currently exhibited in Florence, Nice and some pieces (until December) in Malpensa through the MaGa museum in Gallarate. And from October 4th, at the Hotel Galleria Vik (in the Vittoro Emanuele gallery in Milan) there will be a room dedicated to me that will be permanent, and an exhibition of my works until December.

  • Tell us about your future projects. Do you have any other artistic series in mind that you are currently developing, or new creative directions you wish to explore in the near future?

I really like interior design and some projects in this regard are already in progress. I have a degree in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic and I worked in NY in a design studio for 2 years while I wrote my thesis. Design has always been one of my passions.

  • As an artist, what aspect of your work excites you the most or brings you the greatest sense of fulfillment? Is there a particular moment or achievement in your career that you cherish fondly?

When I finish one of my jobs, especially a big one where it can take up to 2 weeks, I feel an incredible feeling of relief and relaxation. This state of inner peace lasts a couple of days at most, then I have to start producing something new or I get anxious and start to feel restless. Even during the creation of my works I feel a state of calm, for me it is almost a meditation. I often spend 6-7 hours working thinking it’s been a couple of hours at most.

Having had one of my works exhibited at MOMEM in Frankfurt surrounded by works by Andreas Gursky, Tobias Rehberger, Caio Reisewitz, Banksy, Hubert Scheibel and others for an exhibition of works that inspired and belong to Sven Väth. I must say that it was a great satisfaction both from an artistic point of view and from the fact that I am a big fan of electronic music.

  • Ibiza is known for its vibrant artistic and cultural scene. Have you ever been to Ibiza before? If so, could you tell us about your experience there, and whether you enjoy the unique atmosphere of the island?

I have been spending my summer holidays in Ibiza for twenty years now. The first time I was 18 and now I’m 38, and there must have been (mainly due to covid) perhaps 5 summers in which I didn’t come to the island. I also spent 3 New Years Eve there.

I really like the north-east of the island with the small beaches and restaurants where you can still experience the Ibizan vibe of the past.
